Preparations for the trip have started. Sailor has been safely delivered to Katherine’s mother’s house where he won’t be able to escape the deer fencing (unlike at James’ mother’s house where he had a great time slipping under the fence into the woods and neighbours’ gardens!)  Sleeping bags purchased, portable gas BBQ (of course!) ready for the first cook up alfresco, and brand new educational material ready for the kids’ home schooling!

Tomorrow we set off for our first stop – Cambridgeshire – and the comfort of the Hutson’s beautiful converted barn. Not exactly roughing it…yet!

We’ve been very lucky with the weather since we returned from Hong Kong, with very unusually sunny and warm days that are more like summer. Fingers crossed it remains this glorious when we’re actually camping!

The first half of our trip is about 6 weeks in duration and will take us up the East Coast to Scotland and then down the West Coast via the Lake District before returning to Surrey to receive our shipment, regroup, celebrate Lizzy’s 8th birthday and set off again for the second half of our trip around Wales and the West Country. We’ll be visiting many friends, stately homes, castles, national parks, the remote Scottish Isles and all sorts of interesting museums and historical sites along the way. We’ll be recording it all here to keep a memory for ourselves and to gloat to you lot!

But today we’re finalising our packing and making last minute plans for the next 2 weeks. Stay tuned for the start of our journey tomorrow!
